    The first step to your trip is careful planning. Choose a suitable time to visit, usually during the months of May to June and September to October, when the weather is favorable for pilgrimage.

      The nearest air hub is at Dehradun. Jolly Grant Airport is located about 238 to 250 km from Kedarnath, which plays an important role in Uttarakhand tourism. The airport is well connected to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Lucknow. Individuals can choose from the following carriers – Indigo, Spice Jet and Air India. This is fastest route, New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is only 260 km away, providing a flight duration of 45 minutes to an hour. The time may  change as per route.
 
 2.Train

For those looking for a more cost-effective mode of transport, there are options available. Take in mind, however, that this significantly increases the duration of your journey as the destination itself is the starting point for another journey.

     The nearest railway station is at Rishikesh, 221 km away. Pre-paid taxi services are available at the railway station for approximately Rs 3,000. (cost can be change) To reach Kedarnath one has to travel 207 km by road and the rest 14 km on foot.

 3.Road

  Reach Dehradun by flight, train or bus. It is from Dehradun that you will make your way to Haridwar and from this holy city you will take the path that leads to the Kedarnath trek. Dehradun, namely – Kashmere Gate Bus Terminal and Anand Vihar Bus Terminal. Individuals can choose from A/C sleeper, non-A/C sleeper, Volvo A/C, Volvo A/C and semi-sleeper buses depending on their requirements.

 

 Travelers can board regular buses from Rishikesh and Kotdwar to Kedarnath. Private taxis can also be hired from these places. The National Highway (538 km) from Delhi to Mana remains open throughout the year. Kedarnath can also be reached by foot from Gaurikund, which is connected by state buses to Rishikesh, Dehradun, Kotdwar and Haridwar. Bus fares vary depending on the season.

Haridwar (206 km) > Rishikesh (24 km) > Devprayag (74km > Srinagar (34 km) >Rudraprayag (33km) > Gaurikund

 (By Augustmuni) > Guptkashi > Phata > Sitapur > Sonprayag (74 km) > Kedarnath By trek (16 km).

     Keep in mind that this is a long and tiring journey. We would recommend reaching Gaurikund as early as possible, as the onward journey is even more physically demanding.

By foot steps

   Gaurikund is the point from where the road to Kedarnath ends and the 16 km trek to the temple begins. Climbing up can be tough, especially for those who lack stamina and are not fit. However, it is also an exhilarating, thrilling and enlightening experience amidst mountains, valleys and rivers. Strategic rest stops are planned

  For those who have trouble walking or just want an authentic experience, ponies can be hired from Gaurikund. The journey is exhilarating as you will travel through majestic landscapes. However, hiring these is quite expensive, costing anywhere between Rs. 3,500 and 6,000 for a round trip.

  By helicopter

Individuals can avail helicopter service for their Kedarnath ji darshan. Regular flights are chartered from Dehradun, Phata, Agastmuni and Gaurikund. A fleet of helicopters with a capacity of 6 passengers and a range of 418 km, operates for short intervals during the day. Price Rs. Rs 6,990 per person for a round trip. The fare for infants below 2 years of age will be 10% of the ticket price and no seat will be provided to the infants.

During winters, the Vigraha (deity) of the temple is taken to Ukhimath to be worshiped for the next six months. Kedarnath is seen as a cognate form of Shiva, the ‘Lord of Kedarkhand’, the historical name of the region.
